AI Patent Searching with Minesoft Origin

I’ve been trialling Minesoft Origin, Minesoft’s new AI tool for patent searching. It’s always interesting to try a new patent searching database, especially in the disruptive field of artificial intelligence. Here are some features of Minesoft Origin that are particularly useful:

💡QUANTITY SEARCHING IN FULL-TEXT

This is a very interesting feature as it is very difficult to capture numbers and units in patent searching. Some intelligence is applied to this function as it able to automatically convert between units, for example between kilograms, grams and pounds. For material property searches, this is a very useful feature. Usually, searching for angles can be difficult as the degree symbol ° is not searchable and some specifications may not use the actual word degree. This feature in Minesoft Origin can get around that problem.

💡SEARCHING TERMS SUCH AS 3D

This is an important feature. for example, ‘three dimensional’ may not always be expressed as a word. It can also, and is freely written in specifications as 3D. If this is not searchable as a keyword, important references could be missed. Of course classification searching can reduce the possibility of this, but if keyword searching is required, this feature is key.

💡QUERY/BOOLEAN INTERFACE

It is possible to search the full-text of patent specifications using operators and truncations. Searches can be performed in international patent classifications (IPC), Cooperative patent classifications (CPC), Japanese F-terms and F-Index, US classifications and Locarno classes. Assignees can also be searched. Results can be limited by jurisdiction, status and date in Minesoft Origin.

💡COMMAND LANGUAGE INPUT

Proximity operators are available that allow for searching within n words and in a particular order. The operator ‘near’ is also available. TAC (title/abstract/claims) is available as a field as well as same paragraph searching. There are many options to search assignees including original, exact and probable as well as the ultimate and exact owner in Minesoft origin.

Backward, forward and all citations can be searched using the command line. A useful feature allows the citation string to appear in the search history. Search histories can be combined and excluded using row numbers.

💡CONCEPT SEARCHING

This function retrieves related keywords based on subject matter, such as diseases and quantities. This a great back-up by Minesoft Origin if certain synonyms are missed in the manual expansion stage.

💡MINESOFT FAMILIES

Results can now be filtered and sorted by Minesoft families as an alternative to the extended family. This works well for Freedom to Operate analysis.

💡ANALYTICS

Analytics are available to construct graphs and analyse IPC/CPC classifications for a set of results. The analytics are not as extensive as they could be, but these are currently being expanded, which is great news.

💡LITERATURE SEARCH

This is a welcome addition to an already feature packed AI patent searching tool. This is especially useful for mechanical prior art searches.

💡AI PATENT SEARCHING TOOL

The AI tools is easy to use. Write a meaningful description and click search. The description may have to be iterated to steer the results into the right area. The AI search can be limited by date and jurisdiction and can be limited to between 10 and 10000 results.
